Tooth loss and your smile
Tooth loss is more common than most people realize and can occur for several reasons. Some people lose their teeth because of gum disease while others might lose a tooth after an accident. Whatever the case, bone loss occurs almost immediately after the tooth is out of its socket. This is why Dr. Soonmyo Wheeler recommends tooth replacement with dental implants, a permanent solution for restoring the missing root and the visible portion of the tooth.

How dental implants work
Dental implants are fabricated, life-like tooth structures that are fused to the jaw bone. The base of the implant integrates with the jaw over a few months and we place an abutment and crown on the area above the gum line to recreate the tooth. Many patients say getting dental implants is about as painful as having a tooth extracted so most tolerate the procedure quite well.
Dr. Wheeler has completed advanced dental implant training and is a member of the International Implant Association. She will customize the entire procedure to ensure you get the best possible result. If bone loss is extensive, Dr. Wheeler may also perform a bone graft or a sinus lift before implant placement. This ensures there is enough bone available to support the implant which in turn reduces the risk of complications.
